The definition of LSZ is officially known as Lysergic acid 2,4-dimethylazetidide, is a novel psychedelic lysergamide compound. It first gained popularity as a mail-order psychedelic that was sold on research chemical markets in the last decade.

Like other compounds in the lysergamide group, LSZ is speculated to exhibit 5-HT2a agonism. This is a shared trait with LSD and other similar compounds and results in many similar research outcomes.

Chemistry background information LSZ

LSZ is not as well-understood as some lysergamides but researchers have discovered quite a bit about the compound in the last decade or so.

As a lysergamide, LSZ contains the core lysergic acid structural group. Lysergamides are polycyclic amides that contain both phenethylamine and tryptamine groups embedded within their structure, as well as a carboxamide group attached to carbon number eight.

One of the reasons that chemicals like LSZ are being discovered more rapidly is because of the way that chemists can create new compounds by varying the substituent attached to the nitrogen atoms in the lysergamide core structure.

In LSZ, an amine functional group is attached to the Rn in the core structure. The core structure has a bicyclic hexahydroindole attached to a bicyclic quinoline group (which constitutes lysergic acid).

At the carbon 8 of the quinoline is attached an amide group. The terminal nitrogen atom in the amide group is substituted to make a 2,4-dimethylazetidide group. The carbon 6 is also substituted with a methyl group.

There are three possible stereoisomers around the azetidine ring. The (S,S)-(+) isomer is the most active at this site, making LSZ similar or slightly more potent than LSD.
