Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No-it is a research chemical! More specifically, it is 1P-LSD. In this article, we will be going over the basics of 1P-LSD with the motive to clear up any confusion you may have. Let’s get right into it!

Break down

In this section, I am going to include a very straightforward and basic breakdown of this intriguing compound.

Sometime during the year of 2015, this mystical chemical structure was first birthed. The inventor? To this day, he or she still remains unknown. I can’t help but wonder if they knew that the synthesis of this compound would change the research chemical industry forever, considering it must be in the top 3 most well-known and well-researched compounds in the research chemical community. One can only wonder! However, we are almost certain that it was designed specifically for the research chemical market.

Let’s talk about the ‘technicalities’.

While it is most commonly called 1P-LSD and/or 1P, its chemical structure name is 1-propionyl-lysergic acid diethylamide. A bit of a mouthful, isn’t it? No worries, we can just stick to saying 1P-LSD to keep things simple. Speaking of its chemical structure, there are a lot of people wondering if it is structurally the same or similar to LSD? Let’s look at this now.

LSD chemical name: lysergic acid diethylamide

1P-LSD chemical name: 1-propionyl-lysergic acid diethylamide

As you can see, they both have similarities in their chemical structure and LSD’s chemical name lives in 1P-LSD’s chemical name. But what else do they have in common? What makes them so similar? LSD and 1P-LSD are not only psychedelic substances, but they also fall into the same category called Lyergamides.

What is a lysergamide?

Lysergamides are a category of hallucinogenic substances. To make a Lysergamide, you need lysergic acid-but how do you make lysergic acid? Essentially, lysergic acid is made by alkaline hydrolysis of Lysergamides such as ergotamine, which is a fungus derived from the ergot fungus on agar plate. Theoretically, you could also make it from ergine that could be extracted from morning glory seeds. However, this kind of synthesis is not common as it is very impractical!

Additionally, Lysergamides are known as the most potent psychedelics known to man. The dosages of Lyergamides are measured in micrograms. You only need a tiny amount of a Lysergamide to experience mind-bending and reality-altering states of consicouness. This chemical class provides activity at various serotonin and dopamine receptors. We know this from the little bit of psychedelic research we have on LSD-but does 1P-LSD work on the same receptors? Let’s look at that now.

Is 1P-LSD Legal?

A very big difference between LSD and 1P-LSD is that LSD is illegal across the globe, while 1P-LSD is legal… Well, mostly legal. Since 1P-LSD is a research chemical, it is legal for production, sale and possession in specific locations around the world. However, it is NOT legally sold for human consumption. This means it is not legal for consumption, only for ‘research purposes’.

If you buy 1P-LSD on the internet, you will see it’s label reads ‘NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION’. This is the only way it is legally distributed to carefully selected locations that do not have control over the substance, eg the Netherands and Canada. Although it has been banned in some areas since it first surfaced in the industry, it is still legal to buy it for research purposes in many counties.

That being said, we cannot really say that we know how it reacts with the body as ingesting it is illegal!

To sum it up, 1P-LSD is legal in some areas, just not for human consumption.

Below, you will find some more information on 1P-LSD in a formal format.

Final thoughts

While the history of 1P-LSD isn’t particularly short, unlike other lysergamides (eg, 1V-LSD), there is little known about it, making this article rather short and sweet. Nonetheless, I hope this article cleared up any confusion around it and the similarities between 1P-LSD and LSD.

We have a long way to go when it comes to psychedelic research and lifting prohibition against such research. However, the future is looking bright as we enter a new age for psychedelics, which will hopefully create a better future for hallucinogenic research. This way, we could understand these compounds and consciousness on a deeper level while optimizing our application(s) of said substances.

As always, stay open-minded and keep the research alive!
